Zbrain System Top
IA controls now offers you a strong and flexible product to develop LabVIEW embedded applications, the line of ZMC’s and ZMD’s from Schmid Engineering; a series of powerful hardware and software for rapid yet efficient embedded system design, development and deployment.
This development kits provide analog and digital communication (I/O) to connect to a variety of process signals and other systems and devices. It also offers higher productivity systems supporting all product development phases: “proof of concept”, “Rapid prototyping” and “series development”.
The LabVIEW graphical language combined with application oriented hardware empowers engineers and process specialist to concentrate on the system functionality, thus, reducing time in development and prototyping. It also provides high-level function scaling from process I/O to signal processing, embedded web-services, mobile file systems and graphical user interfaces can be drag and dropped into graphical code and wired into a self documented block diagram.
The Zbrain system consists on several platforms for application specific areas such as measurement, control and motion, sound and vibration, high-speed signal processing, rugged PLC’s and mobile metering.

Zbrain Hardware platforms for analog devices Blackfin Processors Top
The Zbrain low-power platforms combine Blackfin processor with a variety of signal I/O. These platforms scale signals for CPU power, thus, software applications will be able to process and control Inputs and outputs. All factors, functions and commands can be totally customized to adapt to the customer applications and specifics requirements.
Embedded application Programming Support Top
National instruments LabVIEW Embedded for microprocessors offers a clear and self-documented view of system and its interfaces. Embedding “C” gives transparent access to critical timing and customized hardware down to the assembly level. This system closes the gap to IRQ-Control, register mapping, DMA, GPIO, RTC, watchdog, memory access and other low level hardware resources. LabVIEW integrates several programming modes:
- Mathematical analyses and DSP
- Timing control
- Simulation models
- Textual mathematics, formulas and “C”
- Function oriented data flow
- State-charts (system behavior)
Drag & Drop Graphical User Interfaces Top
Dragging and dropping allows the construction of a range of variants and strategies, from the simple process monitor to complex, multi- faceted menus. Custom specific front panel bitmaps, designed in standard drawing tools, can be controlled directly from the embedded processor. User interfaces can comprise:
- Buttons, switches
- Input fields
- Sliders controls
- Rotary switches
- Displays
- Line plots
- Speedometers
- Bar graphs
- Spreadsheets
- Multicolumn lists
- Easy to use overlays
- Touch even feedback

Maintaining Public Railways with Lower Cost and Improved Safety
Published in Analogue Dialogue Sept 2008 (Analog Devices) A new, systematic maintenance approach now makes it possible to measure, locate, and fix rail- and tramway defects when they appear. Mature railway-engineering know-how and cutting edge technologies—including Blackfin® processors and graphical system design techniques—combine to improve and optimize public transportation.
Graphical Embedded System Design Empowers Life Saving Spider Robots
Published by Analog Devices in August 2008 A six legged robotic spider was designed for operation in tough, rugged environments with highest degrees of freedom for best mobility. Low development risk, highest functionality, and smart embedded software were joined with a new and unique design methodology, combining graphical programming with high computing processing performance and an ultralow energy scheme. The key technologies include the Blackfin® processor, the NI LabVIEW® Embedded Module for Blackfin Processors, and the ZMobile® mixed-signal platform.
Monitoring in a harsh environment
Published in "Control & Automation" in October 2007 Norway's largest industrial project ever, is the development of natural gas extraction in Ormen Lange, which required a condition pipeline monitoring system to monitor the enormous pipeline due to the extreme subsea conditions.
