What is XBee?
The XBee is a convenient transceiver (Transmitter-Receiver) that works under the 802.15.4 (ZigBee) wireless technology. This Technology was developed as an open global standard to satisfy the needs of low-cost and low-power wireless network in the industrial field. Besides the standard IEEE 802.15.4, the XBEE also operates under others unlicensed bands including 2.4GHz, 900MHz and 868 MHz. All these standards are packet-radio based protocol dedicated for low-cost, battery-operated devices. Moreover, these standards also allow different types of topologies for your devices.
“The ZigBee protocol has been created and ratified by member companies of the ZigBee Alliance. Over 300 leading semiconductor manufacturers, technology firms, OEMs and service companies comprise the ZigBee Alliance membership. The ZigBee protocol was designed to provide an easy-to-use wireless data solution characterized by secure, reliable wireless network architectures” (Zigbee wireless standard).

Devices communicate specifically to a single point.
The same device communicates with different points simultaneously.
Self-healing network where all nodes communicate with each other. Connection between nodes in continuously refreshed and updated, therefore, each node is capable of self-discovery. Moreover, when a node leaves the network, all other nodes self-configure based on the new network structure.
