The basic functionality of this system consists of a controller dominating a wireless I/O board. The card reader and sensors (e.g, motion sensor, window sensor, and exit request) are connected to the inputs of the I/O board, while the electric strike and other output devices (e.g, strobe light, siren, and lighting system) are connected to the outputs.
When a user swipes his card at the reader, the I/O board sends the card information to the controller. This processes the information; if the user has the required access level to enter the area he is attempting to get into, the controller activates the corresponding output, causing the door to open. On the other hand, if the user does not have the required access level, an e-mail or pager alarm can be set to inform security about the event.
